“Look let’s be honest, @realDonaldTrump’s Twitter account should be suspended," Harris previously posted.
Harris spoke out after Disney pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air “indefinitely.” In a post on X, she said, “What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power. This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats.” She added, “We cannot dare to be silent or complacent in the face of this frontal assault on free speech. We, the people, deserve better.”
Musk responded by resurfacing one of Harris’ own posts from 2019, when she was a California senator. At the time, she wrote, “Look let’s be honest, @realDonaldTrump’s Twitter account should be suspended.” Musk reposted that message on Friday with a thinking face emoji.
Kimmel’s suspensions came under a week after after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said, drawing immediate backlash.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been questioned over its role. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr defended the decision during an appearance on Fox News, noting that “broadcasters are different than any other form of communication.”
Sen. Ted Cruz also weighed in, warning conservatives that setting such a precedent could backfire, while saying Kimmel had misled the public.
