CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins conducted an interview with Senator Ted Cruz in which she attempted to claim that the motive behind the suspected killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is still unknown.

Collins hosted Cruz on her show “The Source,” where she told the senator, “We don’t have a motive yet. We don’t know yet, we’re waiting.”

Cruz pushed back, saying, “Of course we know. Come on.

“We don’t have a motive yet? We don’t have a motive yet? Really? He just happened to fire the gun in celebration?” Cruz added, a reference to a guest on MSNBC who, during initial reports of the shooting, speculated the gun might have been fired by a supporter “in celebration.”

Collins responded that law enforcement “hasn’t laid out a direct motive. They’ve laid out a lot of evidence here of these messages.”

“Actually, they have,” Cruz responded. “They’ve said that he was a left-wing activist who hated Charlie Kirk.”

“Senator, with all due respect, you know exactly what I’m saying,” Collins replied. “I’m not arguing with you politically, I’m saying that law enforcement has not put a specific motive. You know that there’s a difference.”

All available information released by law enforcement at this time indicates that the suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was politically left-wing. Authorities have released documents showing a text message exchange with his transgender-identifying roommate, with whom he had a romantic relationship. In one message, Robinson wrote that he had “enough of his hate,” referring to Kirk.

Investigators also found anti-fascist phrases etched on bullet casings and rounds recovered at the scene. Additionally, Robinson’s mother told investigators that he had recently shifted left politically, especially on pro-gay and pro-transgender issues.

Despite the evidence, a YouGov poll conducted on September 14 found that only 21 percent of respondents believed Robinson was a Democrat, while 24 percent said he was a Republican.
