The Conservative Party caucus is set to hold a vote on Erin O'Toole's leadership Tuesday. Meeting on Parliament Hill, CPC MP Cheryl Gallant will chair the meeting, which among other issues, is meant to address the controversies around Erin O'Toole's leadership during the election.
According to a party insider, the caucus is urged to vote yes on giving themselves the power to kick out a leader. Most notably, the party inside says Erin O'Toole will call a snap caucus vote on his leadership. This will be a public vote, asking all caucus members to determine the fate of Erin O'Toole as leader of the Conservative Party. Please note that this information has not been independently verified.
This news comes as O'Toole's leadership is being challenged by Conservative MP's and a National Councillor for the party.
Bert Chen, who holds the Ontario seat in governing council of the party, launched a petition to remove O'Toole as leader. "Erin O'Toole has BETRAYED the principles that the Conservative Party is founded on," the petition reads.
"Erin O'Toole has BROKEN THE TRUST of the members of the Conservative Party. Erin O'Toole's campaign in the 2021 Federal Election FAILED in electing enough Conservative MPs to form a government," Chen continued.
"In about 30 ridings, we came within 2,000 votes of the Liberals. We are building towards victory next time. We are closer in dozens upon dozens of ridings but not close enough," O'Toole has said in response to the ongoing controversy.
"I am disappointed that we lost some members and I’ve already initiated a post-election review to examine what went right, what went wrong and what we can do better to win in 18 months."
