The top leader of the violent MS-13 gang for the east coast of the US has been arrested by authorities.

The 24-year-old suspect, who has not yet been named, was taken into custody in Woodbridge, Virginia, just south of Washington, DC, per Fox News. He is reportedly one of the top three leaders of the gang in the country.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who watched the arrest from a nearby tactical operation center, told the outlet, "They executed a clean, safe operation and the bad guys in custody. And thanks to the FBI, we got one of the worst of the worst of the MS-13 off the streets this morning. Virginia and the country is a lot safer today."

Bondi wrote on X following the arrest, "I’m proud to announce that early this morning our brave law enforcement officers conducted a successful operation that captured a top MS-13 national leader. DOJ will not rest until we make America safe again."

In a press conference, Bondi said that the suspect was an illegal immigrant from El Salvador. On the increase in arrests seen under the new administration, Bondi said, "We didn’t need new laws, as President Trump always said, we needed a new president."

FBI Director Kash Patel, who also watched the arrest unfold, said, "This is what can happen when you put good cops in good places to take on bad guys. And America should be watching this. And we are proud to be here standing with these brave warriors."

"This is a massive victory for a safer America, Justice is coming," he added in a post.

The joint operation was joined by the FBI, the Prince William County Police Department, ATF, ICE, and the Virginia State Police.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin wrote, "Great work from the national model of teamwork between the great federal resources and leadership and Virginia’s law enforcement heroes."

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote, "This is what happens when you have competent federal leadership working with state/local law enforcement on the ground!"

"Great job by Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, Tom Homan, and Kristi [Noem], on the capture of MS13 leader - A big deal!" Trump wrote.
