"A WSP Lieutenant contacted a pedestrian that was running across the freeway. The pedestrian pushed her down and stole the patrol vehicle."
According to WSP, the incident began around 11:45 am when the lieutenant responded to a report of a pedestrian running across the freeway near Northgate in Seattle. When the lieutenant approached the individual in her car, the pedestrian moves away. It isn't until he went to the front to the car and looked at her through the windshield that he went around to her door.
When the officer opens her door, the man pulled her out of the car and shoved her to the ground. He then climbed into the driver’s seat of the patrol vehicle, and drove away. The incident was captured on video obtained by TMZ.
Troopers quickly began pursuing the stolen vehicle. The chase continued until officers used what appeared to be a PIT maneuver, a tactical vehicle intervention designed to bring a pursuit to a stop, on southbound Interstate 5 in Lynnwood, effectively ending the incident. KOMO News reporter Jeremy Harris obtained footage from traffic cameras showing the pursuit.
WSP Trooper Rick Johnson said no one was injured in the incident. Johnson also shared images from the scene on social media, posting photos of vehicles pulled over along the freeway. In his post on X, Johnson wrote: “This is the end of a pursuit that started NB 5 at 85th. A WSP Lieutenant contacted a pedestrian that was running across the freeway. The pedestrian pushed her down and stole the patrol vehicle. A pursuit ensued and finally came to an end SB I-5 in Lynnwood.”
He added, “Thankfully no injuries.” Authorities have not yet released additional information about the suspect or potential charges.
