FIFA confirms Trump will present trophy to winning World Cup team in July

"We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course," Gianni Infantino told Fox & Friends.

"We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course," Gianni Infantino told Fox & Friends.

President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey next month and personally present the trophy to the winning team, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed Tuesday, capping what has already become one of the most successful sporting events ever hosted in the United States.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, Infantino revealed that Trump will join him at the July 19 championship match at the New Jersey Stadium, where the pair will award the World Cup trophy following the tournament's conclusion.

"We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course," Infantino said.

A relationship has developed between the pair ahead of the World Cup. In December 2025, Infantino presented Trump with FIFA's newly developed Peace Prize during a ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. The decision to have Trump appear at the trophy hand-off breaks from usual World Cup tradition.

In the 2018 World Cup in Russia as well as 2022 tournament in Qatar, Infantino presented the trophy personally to the winning team captains. However, with Trump he will be appearing alongside the FIFA president. Despite not getting to attend any of the games as of yet, White House spokesman Andrew Giuliani said that Trump has been following the tournament.

“I spoke to him a day or two after the U.S. won against Paraguay,” Giuliani said. “He’s pumped. He understands this is a really good team that has a really special opportunity here.”

When asked about why Trump has not attended, Giuliani responded that the president likes to "leave people watching" and "likes a good cliffhanger."

Trump and Infantino have appeared together repeatedly throughout FIFA's recent events, with Infantino frequently praising the United States' preparations for hosting the world's largest sporting competition.

Trump was also present at last year's FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, where he presented the championship trophy to English powerhouse Chelsea after its victory over Paris Saint-Germain. Images of Trump celebrating alongside Chelsea players quickly spread across social media and became one of the defining moments of the tournament.

The moment caused some confusion, as the players did not know Trump would be staying on the podium. "They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay," Chelsea's Reece James said at the time.

Throughout the World Cup competition, international fans have flooded social media with videos praising American cities, stadiums, transportation networks, hospitality, and security arrangements. Host venues across the country have reported massive crowds, vibrant fan festivals, and strong economic activity as millions of visitors traveled to matches.

Trump has embraced the World Cup throughout its run, and his appearance at the final is expected to trigger extensive security measures similar to those seen during his recent visit to Madison Square Garden for the NBA Finals, where Secret Service protection resulted in road closures and heightened screening procedures. Officials have not yet announced the specific security plan for the World Cup final.
