A teacher at the Pine Lakes Elementary School in Broward County's Pembroke Pines Florida was found "coughing and dry heaving" on the ground of her classroom after being assaulted by a 5-year-old student on Wednesday.
In another shocking example of a school assault, the teacher wound up having to be carried out of the school on a stretcher. She was promptly taken to Hollywood Florida's Memorial Regional Hospital.
According to local news, "officers found the teacher sitting on the ground against a wall." Officers reported that "she appeared 'faint' and 'dazed'" at the time they found her.
It appears that the incident started when two students, a 4-year-old or a 5-year-old, were acting extremely appropriately around 10am on Wednesday morning. Police reports state that the pair were doing things such as throwing objects at teachers and flipping chairs over.
They were both taken to the school's "cool down room," at which point the 5-year-old physically assaulted the teacher with "hands, first and feet." The teacher radioed for help, and shortly after, police arrived at the scene.
The alleged 5-year-old assailant is currently facing a charge of aggravated assault. There is currently no information available on whether he is still being held by authorities or if he was remanded to his parents' custody.
Incidences of assaults in schools are usually confined to fights between students, or, occasionally, teachers assaulting students. This current case is remarkable not just because a student assaulted a teacher, but because of the young age of the suspect.
