Florida police arrested a woman on Tuesday for allegedly threatening to kill Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Danyele Amira Callaway, 20, of Riverview, has been accused of sending "life-threatening" messages to Gov. DeSantis through the governor's online website. She faces a charge of written or electronic threat to kill or inflict bodily injury.

Callaway is being held without bond at the Falkenburg Road Jail. She was arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) on July 9, court records show.

According to the HCSO, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement alerted the agency to the alleged threats made by Callaway on Monday, July 8. The message included a request to have an in-person meeting followed by life-threatening statements. Staff members notified authorities about the matter.

The sheriff's office said deputies identified Callaway as the suspect, who reportedly has a history of making violent threats toward DeSantis and other lawmakers. She has previously been arrested on battery charges against public servants and charges of domestic violence, per ABC 7.

On July 9 around 9:30 am, the HCSO's Behavioral Unit arrived at Callaway's home and conducted a mental health evaluation. Callaway allegedly admitted to issuing the threats toward DeSantis. She was arrested and taken into custody. Callaway has expressed anti-police and anti-government sentiments in the past, according to the network.
