Former ethics commissioner Mary Dawson, when testifying at the Commons ethics committee, said she thinks Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's "heart is in the right place." Her comment comes at a time when Justin Trudeau is being investigated under the Conflict of Interest Act for a third time.

Blacklock's Reporter said Dawson told the ethics committee Trudeau doesn't mean to breach the Act, "I feel he tries to do the right thing. He tries to do good. And I just think these things have been oversights, basically...sometimes it's just not being careful enough. Other times it could be quite serious, I think."

Dawson told the Ethics committee that she is opposed to harsh fines or penalties for MP's that are found to break the law. Right now, the maximum fine for breaking ethics law is $500.
