A former Iowa associate high school principal has committed suicide amid an investigation into allegations that he sexually exploited a student.

William Terry, 47, who previously worked at the Marshalltown High School, shot himself as police arrived at his home to execute an arrest warrant, the New York Post reports.

Allegations that Terry was engaging in a sexual relationship with a former student were first reported to police on July 6.

Terry is not the school district's first employee to commit suicide following allegations of sexual misconduct, with a Marshalltown middle school teacher shooting himself in his car on July 8 due to allegations he was kissing a teenager.

The series of alleged sexual misconduct incidents in the Iowa school district has led to a statement from the superintendent.

"The District will... be providing additional training on staff ethics and responsibilities, and is reviewing the curriculum to ensure all students are informed about reporting — and empowered to seek help — if a concerning situation arises," the statement reads.
