The individual accused of stabbing Sanchez claimed he acted in self-defense and alleged that Sanchez had instigated the confrontation, according to FOX59. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said officers responded shortly after 12:30 am to a report of a person shot, but upon arrival, they discovered one man suffering from stab wounds and another with separate injuries.
Sanchez was later arrested at the hospital on charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. IMPD stated that a physical altercation had taken place between two men, one sustaining “lacerations” and the other had stab wounds.
The incident took place near Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery. Sanchez was allegedly stabbed in the chest and rushed to the hospital for surgery, where he was listed in critical condition but was later stabilized. The second individual involved also suffered “significant injuries” and told police Sanchez was the aggressor, claiming he acted in self-defense.
The man said he was delivering food when Sanchez approached and told him to leave, saying he could not park in the alley. The man alleged that Sanchez became aggressive and used pepper spray, prompting him to stab Sanchez in self-defense.
Authorities said Sanchez was uncooperative with officers.
Sanchez had been scheduled to broadcast the Indianapolis Colts vs. Las Vegas Raiders game for Fox Sports on Sunday. Fox Sports issued a statement to FOX59 saying, “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
