When people previously came to know about Former Oregon House Speaker Dave Hunt, a Democrat, they’d see a career politician. He spent a decade in the Oregon House of Representatives, was elected their majority leader for 2007 to 2009, and speaker between 2009 and 2011.

After Hunt left his public office he had years of private sector work, while also being a registered lobbyist.  But this seemingly quiet life has now been uprooted, due to the results of a recent sting operation by Portland Police.

It was at the beginning of this month that the Portland Police Bureau issued a press release of the general operation. The Human Trafficking Unit back in April nabbed eight men in an undercover To Catch a Predator style operation. Online decoys put out ads, the men involved tried to pay for sex, and they got caught and charged with Commercial Sexual Solicitation.

But the press release didn’t name specific names of who the authorities caught. It was only after reporters at the Portland Tribune requested a list of specifics that Dave Hunt’s identity came to light.

The outlet highlights an ironic detail: Dave Hunt voted on HB 2714, a bill that criminalized commercial sexual solicitation.

At the time of writing this Dave Hunt is still listed as a member of the Clackamas Community College Board of Education.
