On Thursday, Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom falsely accused a city in Tennessee of banning homosexuality in public.

The city of Murfreesboro passed an ordinance in June that banned "indecent behavior" but Newsom parrotted a lie written by a left-leaning news outlet to seemingly mislead the public rather than sticking to the facts.

"A city in Tennessee has banned being gay in public," Newsom wrote on X. "This is just the beginning. We have to call this out."

Newsom's post has since been seen by more than 4 million people, yet the ordinance states no such thing. In fact, the city of Murfreesboro's recent update to the ordinance removed terminology dating back 70 years that included "homosexuality" as inappropriate "sexual misconduct" on city code, according to Daily News Journal.

The city's newly passed ordinance bans "indecent behavior," including "indecent exposure, public indecency, lewd behavior, nudity or sexual conduct."

The ordinance is intended to "promote public decency, maintain family-friendly environments in public places, and protect against harm to minors from public expressions appealing to prurient interests or that are offensive to prevailing community standards."

The Democrat governor, who many believe could launch a presidential bid, was slammed on X for "intentionally" misleading the public. Newsom's post was also "community noted," which is essentially a community-run fact-checking service.

Babylon Bee's Seth Dillon wrote, "Gavin Newsom thinks being gay means exposing yourself in public."

Libertarian political activist the Redheaded Libertarian wrote: "Tennessee: You can't have sex in public. Gavin Newsom: OH SO YOU CANT BE GAY WOW."

"Bro you just showed your own homophobia by assuming that EVERY GAY PERSON is gonna naturally engage in lewd, indecent, publicly sexual behavior. Way to freaking go. Don't you have a reservation at French Laundry or something? Do that. Stop embarrassing yourself," said Chicks on the Right.
