Cure had one hand behind the law enforcement officer's back, and the other over his mouth and chin
Leonard Allan Cure was pulled over after being caught going over 100mph in his truck, according to the Daily Mail. After refusing to follow orders, he attacked a sheriff's deputy, who proceeded to fatally shoot Cure.
Bodycam and vehicle footage of the incident released on Thursday showed that upon being pulled over, Cure was asked by the officer to exit the vehicle, which he did after initially replying, "I ain't doin' sh*t."
Cure was instructed to put both his hands on the back of the truck, but argued with the officer about his speed and raised one into the air, at which point he was tased.
After being shocked, Cure was seen lunging at the sheriff's deputy, grabbing his face and pushing him over the back of the truck. Cure had one hand behind the law enforcement officer's back, and the other over his mouth and chin.
"Yeah b*tch, yeah b*tch," Cure was heard saying as the officer struggled.
The sheriff's deputy eventually managed to wrestle Cure to the ground, and in the ensuing struggle, fired a single bullet, striking him just below the armpit.
"Shots fired! Shots fired! Suspect down!" he said, calling for backup. Subsequent footage shows him weeping as first responders are unable to revive Cure.
As the Daily Mail reports, Cure was convicted of armed robbery in 2003 and sentenced to life in prison, however, he was exonerated in 2020 after the Broward State Attorney's Office's Conviction Review Unit, alongside a panel of five lawyers, deemed him not responsible. Since then, he has toured around giving inspirational speeches to students.
