Most Canadians say they are opposed to vaccine mandates, reports an internal government memo.
Canadians are especially against vaccine mandates when they stigmatize or punish other Canadians who do not want to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Blacklock's Reporter.
This polling was done confidentially by the government's Privy Council. This research showed that Canadians were, on the whole, uncomfortable with vaccination passport policies.
"There was not a great desire among the Canadian public to implement such a program for Canadians," said the internal government report. They found that Canadian's opposition to this program "centred on the issues this would cause for those individuals who do not wish to be vaccinated."
Six weeks after the pandemic started, the government secretly asked their researchers to do a review of "immunopassports" and whether they would be supported.
The research revealed that these passports were unpopular. Nevertheless, on August 15, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly expressed his support for them during the election, making vaccines a political wedge issue.
"There was a concern about potential discrimination based on vaccination status," said the report.
These were based on focus groups that were conducted nationwide. It cost the Canadian taxpayer over a million dollars.
