Greg Abbott deploys 'Texas Tactical Border Force' to control migrant surge as Title 42 expires

"Biden is laying down the welcome mat to people across the entire world, but Texas is deploying our new Texas Tactical Border Force," Abbott said

Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the newly minted "Texas Tactical Border Force" will be deployed to the Mexican border to help prepare for the surge of migrants expected to make their way north when Title 42 expires on Thursday.

The group will work in tandem with soldiers in the Texas National Guard, hundreds of whom are set to join the thousands already stationed along the border.

"With the ending of Title 42 on Thursday, President Biden is laying down the welcome mat to people across the entire world, but Texas is deploying our new Texas Tactical Border Force," Abbott said in a press release on Monday.

He explained that the Texas National Guard was in the process of "loading Blackhawk helicopters and C-130s and deploying specially trained soldiers for the Texas Tactical Border Force, who will be deployed to hotspots all along the border to help intercept and repel large groups of migrants trying to enter Texas illegally."

"The Texas Tactical Border Force," Abbott stated, "will bolster our Operation Lone Star efforts to secure the Texas border amid the chaos caused by President Biden’s elimination of Title 42."

Texas Border Czar Mike Banks commended Abbott's decision, suggesting that the governor was "doing the job that President Biden and the federal government is refusing to do."

Major General Thomas Suelzer called the dedication to protecting Texas shown by the troops "inspirational."

In recent years, the crisis at the southern border has gotten progressively worse, and with little assistance from the federal government, states have stepped in to take matters into their own hands.

The strongest response has come from Texas, where in 2021 Abbott launched Operation Lone Star. Under the program, 373,000 illegal migrants have been apprehended, 28,000 criminals have been arrested, and 400 million lethal doses of fentanyl have been seized, alongside countless other drugs.

According to Abbott, Biden's decision to end Title 42 is expected to bring the daily total number of illegal migrants attempting to enter the country up to 13,000.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has nonetheless maintained that the border is "secure."
