As Title 42 is set to expire on Thursday, ending the power granted to Border Patrol and Department of Homeland Security officials that enabled them to remove illegal immigrants over concerns about health and the spread of communicable disease, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said he plans to transport "thousands" of border crosses to sanctuary cities such as New York City and Chicago.

According to the New York Post, Abbott said on Monday during a press conference, "With the Biden Administration ending Title 42 this Thursday, President Biden is laying down a welcome mat to people across the entire world, saying that the United States border is wide open and it will lead to an incredible amount of people coming across the border illegally."

In April, Abbott began relocating the masses of illegal immigrants flooding into Texas and promised to bus them to blue states whose leadership supported open borders. By October, 19,000 illegal immigrants had arrived in NYC, causing NYC Mayor Eric Adams to declare a state of emergency due to leadership's inability to house and take care of the individuals. Adams said his city was too crime-ridden even for illegal immigrants, many of whom got off the bus to go anywhere else while in transit.

Abbott added on Monday that "Thousands have been bussed already" to cities like New York, Chicago, and Washington DC.

"Many thousands more will be bussed in the coming days because of the massive influx of illegal migrants," Abbott said.

Abbott deployed the Texas National Guard to the US-Mexico border in anticipation of Title 42 ending and the expectation that 13,000 will try to cross the border each day, for a total of 4.74 million in 2023. In Biden's border crisis, 2,378,944 illegal immigrant encounters were reported in the 2022 fiscal year and 1,659,206 were reported in FY 2021.

81,000 have tried to cross in the last 10 days alone.

The cities of  El Paso, Laredo, and Brownsville have declared states of emergency.

A team of Texas National Guard members known as the Tactical Border Force was also deployed to the border. Abbott said, "They will be deployed to hot spots along the border to intercept, to repeal, and to turn back migrants that are trying to enter the US illegally."

The Tactical Border Force will use C-130 Hercules aircraft and Black Hawk Helicopters in their efforts.
