Mackendy Darbouze, 26, faces three counts of first-degree murder for the stabbing deaths of 77-year-old Beatrice Desir, a 13-year-old, and a 4-year-old.
A Haitian migrant who entered the US under former President Joe Biden’s migrant parole program has been charged with the triple murder of his family members, including an elderly woman and two children, in North Carolina.
Mackendy Darbouze, 26, faces three counts of first-degree murder for the stabbing deaths of 77-year-old Beatrice Desir, a 13-year-old, and a 4-year-old. According to a report by Fox News, police responded to a home on February 21 at around 9 am after receiving a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived to find three victims suffering from stab wounds. A local ABC station reported that Darbouze greeted law enforcement at the door covered in blood.
Authorities said three children were present in the home at the time of the attack. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Darbouze walking around with a knife, and investigators found a bloodied knife in his room. He was arrested at the scene and is being held without bond.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed to Fox News that Darbouze arrived in the US in July 2024 under Biden’s Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela (CHNV) parole program. The program, implemented in 2022 and expanded in 2023, allowed up to 30,000 asylum seekers per month from these countries to enter the US.
The parole program gained national attention during the 2024 election cycle, particularly following the killing of University of Georgia student Laken Riley by Venezuelan national Jose Ibarra, who was also in the country under the program. President Donald Trump shut down the parole program by executive order upon taking office.
ICE has lodged a detainer on Darbouze, who does not speak English.
