Here are the craziest ideas from Wisconsin Dem candidate for governor Francesca Hong

Francesca Hong, the democratic socialist who holds the lead in polling ahead of the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Wisconsin in August, could become the next governor of the state. Hong's rise comes with what has appeared to be a surge in socialism among those on the left.

Zohran Mamdani was elected to New York City mayor after he promised to make government-fun grocery stores, Ethiopian immigrant Melat Kiros won her primary against a 15-term Democrat Rep. Diana DeGette after she said that wanted to abolish ICE, and now Hong—who has previously said she wants to abolish the US Senate—is in a position to win the Democrat primary and become the first card-carrying Democratic Socialists of America member to be elected to lead a state.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Hong was confronted with some of her past far-left posts calling to abolish the police, abolish ICE, and other policy positions she has endorsed.

Host Dana Perino asked Hong whether she held to the same far-left positions as the DSA, such as abolishing the Senate. Hong claimed that was something that is "nonsensical and non-practical at this time."

However, she has previously called to do so in social media posts. In 2021, Hong posted to then-Twitter: "Abolish the Senate."

Hong claimed that she does not want to abolish the Supreme Court, something that the DSA calls for.

During the interview, Hong admitted that she is a dues-paying member of the DSA. When she was asked if she would advocate for "public ownership of America's largest corporations or those in Wisconsin," Hong did not directly answer the question, bringing up that she is "incredibly proud of our Green Bay Packers, a publicly owned NFL team."

Hong said she would not take control of some corporations, but did not get specific on the topic, leaving the door open to the left-wing policy. When she was asked about her previous calls to defund and abolish the police, Hong said that "people can evolve" and said that she will not "defund the police."

Some of Hong’s tax platform includes “taxing hidden wealth,” or an estate tax on inherited wealth. Wisconsin currently does not have an estate tax.

Hong wants to raise the state minimum wage to $20 an hour for workers as well as guarantee paid leave. She wants to raise taxes on the rich as well as corporations.

Her platform calls for abolishing ICE and giving in-state tuition to DACA recipients. She has also called for all immigrants, illegal and legal, to obtain state IDs.

In relation to AI, she has called for a moratorium on data centers on her policy platform. The platform also includes government-controlled grocery stores. 

During a rapid-fire policy interview with far-left commentator Hasan Piker, Hong also said that she would "tentatively" be in favor of creating a statue of Scott Walker, the 45th governor of Wisconsin, for the sole purpose that people can deface it.
