DSA-endorsed leftist Melat Kiros, who is seeking to become another socialist in Congress through her run to representat Colorado’s 1st Congressional District, said in an interview with Voice of Tegaru claims that America needs more immigrants in office, and more people "who have heritage in the global south." Kiros believes that if enough immigrants from the global south are elected to office, America would no longer be able to engage in exploitative practices.

"There's a certain reckoning that we are going to have to have with the global world order as it exists today and the way that it fundamentally will have to shift going forward,” she said.

“The responsibility that we have as Americans, the recognition that is going to be required of us — of the exploitative and extractive nature that we play on the global scale and the global stage — is only going to be challenged if we are getting represented by people who understand that on a fundamental level. And that means getting more immigrants into office. That means getting more people who have heritage in the global south into office."

Kiros, an immigrant from Ethiopia who was brought to Denver as a child by her parents seeking a better life in America, would become the youngest woman in Congress if elected in November. Her Bernie Sanders-endorsed platform includes policies such socialized healthcare and the ending of immigration and customs enforcement.

"We must Abolish ICE. Masked agents kidnapping innocent people off the streets and disappearing into ICE facilities does not make us safer or protect American jobs," Kiros’ campaign website reads.

"We need to hold the politicians who peddle these lies accountable. The agency is operating as a terror apparatus targeting immigrant families, asylum seekers, and long-rooted community members. We need to replace it with a humane, accountable immigration system focused on genuine public safety — not political theater."

Kiros has also gone as far as to blame America for 9/11 saying that "the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America were the inevitable consequence of American foreign policy."

Kiros, who emerged victorious during the summer wave of DSA-endorsed primary candidates who found success across the country, joins figures like Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez, who have expressed support for parts of the organization’s platform, including proposals to abolish the Senate, Supreme Court, and eventually the presidency itself.
