House Speaker Mike Johnson went to New York on Tuesday to show his support for President Donald Trump as he faces a criminal trial at the hands of Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg. Johnson spoke to the press in support of Trump and called the whole thing a "sham" of a trial. He spoke outside because he was not permitted to speak from inside the courthouse. No cameras have been permitted inside the court room.

"This is the fifth week that President Trump has been in court for this sham of a trial. They are doing this intentionally to keep him here and keep him off of the campaign trail," he said in his statement.

Johnson began the statement, saying, "President Trump is a friend, and I'm here to support him."

"I'm here speaking with you inside because the court will not allow us to speak inside the building. That's just one of the many things wrong here."

"What is being done here to our entire system of justice overall—that people are losing faith right now in this country, in our institution. They're losing faith in our system of justice, and the reason for that is they see it being abused as it is being done here in New York," Johnson said, offering invoking his career as an attorney and litigator.

He further added, "The President's actions in this matter were previously reviewed, and no charges were filed. Why is that? Because there's no crime here."

Along with Johnson, Vivek Ramaswamy, Doug Burgum, Byron Donalds, Cory Mills, Eric Trump, and Lara Trump were there in support of President Trump.

Johnosn said that the real reason the prosecution has brought the charges now, after eight years of not acting on the case, is that Trump is 6 months out from election day. On Monday, Senator JD Vance, Rep. Nicole Maliotakis, and Rep. Tommy Tuberville also showed their support for Trump outside the court house.
