Speaker Johnson called these cases a "coordinated political attack" to hinder Trump's ability to campaign.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has called for all charges against former president Donald Trump to be dropped, labeling them as a "coordinated political attack" orchestrated by the left to hinder Trump's potential return to the campaign trail.
In an address to reporters, Johnson emphasized that the cases against Trump extend beyond the individual and pose a threat to the people's faith in the American justice system. He pledged that Congress would take action in every way it can.
"It's bigger than President Trump. It's about the people's faith in our system of justice." Johnson explained.
Johnson criticized what he described as "partisan prosecutors” and a "double-standard DOJ” for targeting Trump while failing to address other pressing issues, such as antisemitic protests that are destroying college campuses across the country.
The speaker also pointed out numerous instances of biases that have been involved in Trump’s court cases, including a Democratic district attorney, Judge Juan Merchan —whose daughter is a Democrat consultant— and an assistant district attorney who was formerly an official at the DOJ and has received payments from the Democratic National Committee.
"It doesn't matter what political party you're in ... If you look at this objectively, you know deep down that this is wrong,” Johnson said.
Johnson also pointed out the hypocrisy taking place in Trump’s classified documents case, pointing out how "Trump is being treated completely differently from President Biden” after the DOJ refused to bring forward charges to Biden for also previously having classified material in his home.
“It’s the weaponization of our justice system,” Johnson added.
