"We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed."
Democrat leaders in Congress have said that they will vote to support House Speaker Mike Johnson in the case of a motion to oust him from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies, Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar released a statement, saying, "At this moment, upon completion of our national security work, the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of Pro-Putin Republican obstruction. We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed."
The Democrat lawmakers placed blame on House Republicans over delays in foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel, and other bills that went through Congress.
Democratic leadership said they will vote to table the motion or dismiss any attempt to oust Mike Johnson from the Speaker's position.
The move comes just as frustrations with Johnson have grown in the Republican party for helping to fund Ukraine as well as reauthorizing FISA without any measure that requires a warrant for accessing American's information.
"I have to do my job. We have to do what we believe to be the right thing. What the country needs right now is a functioning Congress," Johnson told reporters, according to NBC News. He added that the process of ousting former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) brought chaos to the House.
"No one can afford that... I have to do what I believe is right every day and let the chips fall where they may," he added.
MTG brought the motion to vacate when the House passed a $1.2 trillion budget to fund the government earlier this year. It has not been acted upon, but has gotten public support from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).
