"We look forward to Hunter Biden’s testimony."
Hunter Biden is set to appear before United States Congress, after agreeing on Thursday to sit for a closed-door deposition with the House committees leading the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.
The deposition will be held on Feb. 28 and will come after the House Oversight Committee interviews several other members of the Biden family and their associates.
House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R-KY) issued a joint statement and said: "We look forward to Hunter Biden’s testimony."
"His deposition will come after several interviews with Biden family members and associates," said the chairmen.
The statement added that the committees are "continuing to work with James Biden’s attorney to schedule his appearance."
President Biden, 81, is being investigated by House Republicans for alleged ties to lucrative foreign business dealings involving his relatives, both during and after his vice presidency. Additionally, a Justice Department cover-up is being investigated to protect Joe and Hunter Biden from scrutiny.
President Biden insisted last month that he "did not" interact with Hunter or his brother, James Biden, regarding business, despite evidence that he met with their Chinese, Kazakhstani, Mexican, Russian, and Ukrainian associates.
Republicans allege that Hunter and James Biden sold access to President Biden in exchange for foreign business deals, creating a conflict of interest in foreign affairs.
Hunter Biden was subpoenaed to appear for a closed-door deposition on December 13, 2023. He refused to attend the deposition, however, he made a surprise visit to Congress last week during a hearing to hold him in contempt.
During February's deposition, Hunter Biden may decide to "plead the fifth" in order to prevent self-incrimination.
