Hyatt Hotels has been proud to host the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday through Sunday, and has issued a statement addressing criticism coming its way for doing so.
The three-day event features Donald Trump as its most prominent speaker, along with a bunch of other prominent Republicans.
The #boycotthyatt hashtag has been briefly trending on social media, which is perhaps what caused Hyatt to respond to the criticism, which they feel is unfair, as it would be wrong for them to discriminate against their clients based on things like political affiliation.
People were angry at a scheduled speaker who had made anti-Semitic remarks in the past, but that speaker was dropped from the program after event organizers found out about his views.
Twitter itself seems to have some issue with the CPAC, adding a warning to the link to it wherever it pops up on their platform.
According to Fox Business, a spokesperson from Hyatt Hotels provided them with the following statement by email:
"We take pride in operating a highly inclusive environment and we believe that the facilitation of gatherings is a central element of what we do as a hospitality company."
"We believe in the right of individuals and organizations to peacefully express their views, independent of the degree to which the perspectives of those hosting meetings and events at our hotels align with ours."
"Our own values support a culture that is characterized by empathy, respect and diversity of opinions and backgrounds, and we strive to bring this to light through what we do and how we engage with those in our care."
