"I assume you’re referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children."
In an interview with New York Times’ Ezra Klein Show, Newsom said, "We didn’t even get into trans sports. That’s an issue no one wants to hear about, because 80 percent of people listening disagree with my position on this, but it comes from my heart, not just my head. It wasn’t a political evolution." In an interview earlier this year with the late Charlie Kirk, Newsom had admitted that it is unfair to girls to allow boys to play on their sports teams.
When asked to elaborate his stance, Newsom said, "I don’t think it’s—I want to see trans kids. I have a trans godson. There’s no governor to sign more pro-trans legislation than I have, and no one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBTQ community."
In response to Musk’s America PAC posting the clip, Newsom’s press office posted, "Correct. We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon." Musk had not been involved in the conversation until the trolling press office dragged him into it.
Musk replied, "I assume you’re referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children. I love Xavier very much and hope he recovers. My daughters are Azure, Exa (she goes by Y) and Arcadia, and they do indeed love me very much."
Musk has spoken out strongly on his son’s transition, telling Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson in 2024 that "I lost my son, essentially." He added, “My son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus… So I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that.”
Musk said that he had been "tricked" into allowing his son to undergo a medical transition because of the widely spread claim that to not undergo such procedures would mean suicide. "It’s incredibly evil," said Musk at the time.
The clip of Newsom was cut short and did not include that his stance is accommodating the "reality of those whose rights are being taken away as we advance the rights of the trans community in terms of the fairness of athletic competition."
