Claudia Susana Vargas-Rosas, 39, of Mexico, racked up a series of criminal offenses upon her illegal return to Oregon and is now in ICE custody
The Mexican national beat a child with a meat tenderizer in Washington County in 2014 and was sentenced to 18 months in Oregon state prison, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon announced. She was deported in 2018 upon the completion of her sentence; however, Vargas-Rosas unlawfully returned to Oregon and racked up a series of arrests and charges.
On September 7, 2023, Vargas-Rosas was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Washington County. She was released from custody, and authorities did not notify ICE due to Oregon's sanctuary statute that prohibits local and state law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration-related matters. ICE agents learned of Vargas-Rosas's illegal return after receiving a biometric-based alert following this arrest.
On December 17, 2023, Vargas-Rosas was charged in Washington County with assault and harassment. She pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault and was sentenced to probation, according to court documents.
In November 2024, Vargas-Rosas was arrested again in Washington County. This time on charges including identity theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of illicit drugs, and giving false statements to police. She pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle and received 24 months of supervised probation. Court records show the other charges were dismissed.
On February 6, 2026, Vargas-Rosas was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance in Washington County. ICE learned of her arrest after receiving a biometric-based alert and took Vargas-Rosas into custody.
The US Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon charged Vargas-Rosas with illegal reentry on May 5, 2026. She will likely be deported for the second time upon the completion of her federal prison sentence.
Another illegal immigrant from Mexico who admitted to child sex crimes in Oregon was sentenced to federal prison earlier this month for illegal reentry.
The state of Oregon has a history of releasing criminal illegal aliens from custody who go on to reoffend. Oregon Democrats re-strengthened the state's sanctuary law earlier this year in opposition to the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.
