An illegal immigrant who entered the United States by way of the southern border in 2022 has been charged with killing 11-year-old Aiden Clark, after he crashed into a school bus that he and other children were on in Clark County, Ohio.
35-year-old Hermanio Joseph of Haiti appeared in Clark County Municipal court on Monday, where his attorneys’ request to have his bond reduced from $100,000. According to WHIO, this request was denied, with the judge deciding to keep his bond at $100,000 due to the illegal immigrant being a flight risk and the seriousness of the charges.
Joseph was identified by troopers as the driver of the Honda Odyssey that veered over the center line and into the path of a Northwestern Local School District bus on Route 41 near Lawrenceville Road. This occurred at around 8:16 am on August 22. That day had marked the first day of school for Clark.
The driver of the bus, 68-year-old Alfred Collier, moved to the right side of the roadway, traveling down an embankment and overturned.
Aiden Clark was identified as the child killed in the crash. According to the Springfield News-Sun, Clark was ejected from the bus and died at the scene.
As many as 26 children also on the bus were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. One suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to Children’s Hospital in Dayton.
Both Joseph and his passenger, 37-year-old Roberto Mompremier, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A criminal complaint filed in Municipal Court revealed that Joseph was identified by his Ohio Identification card, and produced a license from Mexico at the scene of the crash that was determined not to be valid because of his immigration status.
An Immigrations and Customs Enforcement spokesman confirmed to Breitbart that Joseph is a citizen of Haiti, and arrived at the southern border in August of 2022. The Department of Homeland Security issued Joseph a Notice to Appear in federal immigration court and then released him into the US, where he ended up in Ohio.
In his obituary, Clark was described by his family as "a truly unique, caring, and inquisitive soul and was one of the most awesome and exceptional 11-year-olds in existence."
"His love of sports was unparalleled, his desire to gain knowledge never stopped, and his weird interests were inspiring and never-ending. From his daily vegetable gardening with his dad, trampoline jumping with his big sister, creating Minecraft worlds with his big bro, and always snuggling with mom."
A fundraiser held earlier this month for the family raised nearly $50,000, according to the Springfield News-Sun.
If convicted, Joseph could receive up to 12 months in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.
