A Jewish man that was on his way to synagogue was shot by an attacker was screaming "Allahu Akbar," and is reportedly an illegal immigrant. This comes amid the ongoing border crisis under the Biden-Harris administration.

According to the Jerusalem Post, a Jewish man, 39, was shot by a 22-year-old armed suspect on the 2,600 block of North Washtenaw Avenue in Chicago, which is an area with many Orthodox Jewish families. The gunman was heard on security cameras screaming "Allahu Akbar" as before he then engaged in a shootout with police, per the report.

The gunman was later identified as Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi and was charged with 14 felonies including 6 counts of first-degree attempted murder.

New York Post journalist Karol Markowicz reported that the suspect in the shooting is an illegal immigrant from northwest Africa and crossed the border about a year and a half ago.

Chicago police told the Jerusalem Post that the suspect had approached the Jewish man from behind, and shot several times at him, hitting him in the shoulder. Chicago Police Department chief Kevin Bruno told the outlet, “Responding officers responded to the scene, and as they were on the scene, at about 9:55[am], the offender reemerged from an alley and fired shots at the officers and at the responding paramedics,” as well as at an ambulance.

“Over the next two-and-a-half minutes, the offender emerged from various locations and exchanged shots with the officers,” Bruno added.

Debra Silverstein, who is the alderman in Chicago’s 50th Ward told reporters: “The victim is in stable condition and is recovering at home.”

“The shooting happened on Shabbat following the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah. I spoke with Superintendent Larry Snelling, who assured me that there is no more known threat and has committed the full support of the Chicago Police Department to ensuring the safety of our community," Silverstein added.
