In an interview with Telemundo released Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris endorsed mass amnesty for illegal immigrants when she was asked about deportations.

"Right now we're talking about border security, and there's nobody, no Democrat, talking about a pathway to citizenship, of immigration relief, talking about benefits that migrants bring to this country,” Harris was told as she haltingly told the interviewer, “I am… I am talking.”

She then provided a garbled vision of her immigration policy. “But there is no question that migrants bring… America is a country that was built in part by immigrants.” When she is asked about people who are “talking about mass deportations,” Harris said, “I’m not.” Harris tried to summarize her thoughts by saying, “We need smart, humane immigration policy in America, that includes a pathway to citizenship.”

Harris also tried to clarify her fiscal policies, saying, "I am a capitalist. I am a pragmatic capitalist.” She described her economic philosophy as one where government and the private sector work hand in hand "to drive new industries and build up small business owners, to allow us to increase home ownership, to allow people and their families to build intergenerational wealth."

Harris’ comments are at odds with her recent statements of support for a tighter border policy. Though she has tried to distance herself from soft border security policy from her own administration with President Joe Biden.

Illegal immigration has raised the number of terrorists that have been allowed into the country, however, the danger is not just to the United States, but to immigrants themselves. Reports of sex trafficking of migrant children have tripled during this time, according to federal Health and Human Service Department records. US Customs and Border Patrol has warned that many children coming over the border are being subject to exploitation.
