A suspected DUI driver who killed a woman in Nashville after driving his car into oncoming traffic has been confirmed to be an illegal immigrant from Honduras and had his Temporary Protected Status (TPS) revoked in 2015.

First reported by Fox News' Bill Melugin, Julio Cesar Herrera Gonzales was granted TPS in 2008, but it was later revoked in 2015. "As a result of the crash, he has now been charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, DUI, and driving without a license. ICE has placed a detainer on him with local authorities, and according to online jail records, he is being held for ICE and is not eligible for release," Melugin said.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement, “Herrera Gonzales drove drunk and killed Raquel Lorena Sarabia Baraja and left her husband Marco Antonio Baez Del Angel fighting for his life. This criminal illegal is charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, DUI, and driving without a license.

"ICE issued an arrest detainer on August 23, 2025, to ensure this criminal is not released back into American communities. It seems to be almost a daily occurrence where an illegal alien driving kills innocent Americans. All of these deaths are preventable because these illegal aliens should have NEVER been in our country," DHS added.

The tragedy comes after illegal immigration and the issue of commercial driving on the road has become a national issue, after an illegal immigrant killed three people in Florida by making an illegal U-turn on the highway across multiple lanes. Harjinder Singh, the driver, had failed an English proficiency test during a post-accident interview, and could only identify one of four highway signs and answered just two of 12 verbal questions correctly.
