JD and Usha Vance announce birth of baby boy at Walter Reed

Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance announced Sunday that they have welcomed a new baby boy, their fourth child.

In a statement released by the Office of the Vice President, the couple announced the birth of Alec Neel Vance, saying both mother and son are doing well. "We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother."

The Vances also expressed gratitude to the medical personnel who cared for their family during the delivery. "The incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit have been a blessing. We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family."

The announcement was accompanied by the official seal of the Office of the Vice President and signed by both JD and Usha Vance. The White House retweeted Vance’s statement, writing, “Congratulations to Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance on the birth of their fourth child!”

Alec Neel Vance joins the couple's three older children, making him the newest addition to the vice president's family. Vance, who took office in January alongside President Donald Trump, has frequently spoken about the importance of family and has often referenced his children while discussing public policy.

Congratulations quickly poured in on social media from lawmakers, administration officials, and supporters following the announcement.

According to the Associated Press, the last time a sitting vice president had a child while became a new father was in 1870 when Schuyler Colfax and his second wife, Ellen Wade, had a son, Schuyler Colfax III. Colfax was serving as vice president at the time. Before that, John C. Calhoun and his wife, Floride Bonneau, had a son, William, in 1829 while Calhoun was vice president.
