Bill Maher says 'yes' to voting for Vance if Dems surge towards DSA in 2028

Longtime liberal talk show host and comedian Bill Maher has said "yes" to seeing himself voting for Vice President JD Vance in the upcoming 2028 presidential election, as the Democratic Party has continued to shift to the left.

After Maher previously said that his vote was "in play," he was asked by ABC News anchor Jon Karl if that meant he could see himself "voting for Vance."

"Yes,” Maher replied. "If this is the Democratic side, yes."

"I'm not living in communist America ... I've read the quotes from the DSA platform, from their own mouths. Don't tell me I'm not seeing what I am seeing," Maher added, pointing out the far-left Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

He went on to explain that he reads more and more every day about more DSA-affiliated candidates talking about how they want to abolish the police, prisons, and the justice system as it is currently constituted.

"What world do they think we could possibly live in under these conditions? That's just a level of nutty that I'm so glad, whatever it was I was like, I'm not going along, 'cause this is where it ends."

The comments come just a few weeks after Vance spoke to the host on "Real Time with Bill Maher" on June 26, where the two spoke about issues ranging from the 2020 election to Trump being the leader of the GOP.

At the time, Maher pushed on Vance about some portions of the GOP that have a continued reluctance to concede the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

“But it is a problem if you have an entire political party, an entire political movement that doesn’t recognize the legitimacy of elections, of course, and my big issue from the beginning,” Maher said at the time. Despite the disagreements with Vance, Maher said that the interview with Vance went well and that it was "a good time."

“Everybody’s a monster until you talk to them,” Maher said. “You can disagree with them a lot, but we had a good time.”
