"Have you said 'thank you' once?"
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office on Friday, during which Vance pressed the Ukrainian leader as to whether he thought it was "respectful" to come to the Oval Office and "attack the administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your country."
Speaking on the "kind of diplomacy that’s going to end the destruction of [Zelensky’s] country," Vance said, "with respect, I think it’s disrespectful for you to come to the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media. Right now you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems."
"You should be thanking the president—" Vance continued, being cut off by Zelensky who said, "Have you ever been to Ukraine, that you see what problems we have?"
Vance said that he has "watched and seen the stories, and I know that what happens is that you bring people, you bring them on a propaganda tour, Mr. President, do you disagree that you’ve had problems bringing people into your military, and do you think that it’s respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack the administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your country?"
Vance told Zelensky, "have you said 'thank you' once," to which Zelensky replied, "a lot of times."
"No, in this entire meeting, have you said thank you? You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition in October. Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the President whose trying to save your country."
