"At Kroger, the price of a gallon of milk, my guess is about $3.60 a gallon. Check, check if that's right."

Amid a 24-hour multi-state crisscrossing trip around the country to drum up support in the final days of the election, Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance was asked about whether he knew the current price per gallon of milk, in what has been referred to as the "grocery test." Many candidates cannot name these basic numbers that are essential information for American voters, showing how out of touch those candidates are with key issues.

Sitting aboard Trump Force Two, Vance responded to the question from a Daily Mail reporter, "I do, I think. Right now?" He added, "I know the answer to this question very well. Are we talking about organic? Are we talking about the DC area… the Ohio area?  Because at Kroger, the price of a gallon of milk, my guess is about $3.60 a gallon. Check, check if that's right."

A fact check revealed that the price at Vance’s nearest store was $3.29, "which is not bad for a former venture capitalist-turned-senator who now has to live inside a Secret Service bubble as running mate to Donald Trump," Daily Mail Chief US Political Correspondent Rob Crilly wrote.

Vance was also asked whether he still goes out to purchase groceries, to which he replied, "I still buy approximately 50 percent of our groceries," but much of the buying tends to be online because of Secret Service restrictions. Vance's wife, Usha, said that the whole family would go to Krogers around twice a week prior to Vance being named Trump's running mate. Vance said that he wants his "f*cking minivan back."

The comment came as Vance traveled across the country, delivering remarks in swing states ahead of Tuesday's election. The question about the price of milk comes as the economy remains a top issue for voters. An Ipsos poll conducted just before the election found that the economy was the top issue for voters, with 26 percent responding as such. 39.9 percent of respondents in a final Emerson College Polling national survey said that the economy was the most important issue facing the US.
