In a new book that will hit store shelves in June, Vice President JD Vance writes about his conversion to Catholicism as an adult and his relationship with religion throughout his life. The book, "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith," is being published by the HarperCollins Publishers imprint Harper.

Vance’s book, set to be released on June 16, "is a spiritual exploration of what it means to be a Christian in all the seasons of life JD Vance has experienced—as a child, a young man, a husband, a father, and a leader," reads a preview. Vance converted to Catholicism in 2019.

"Picking up in some ways where 'Hillbilly Elegy' left off, 'Communion' recounts how Vance's pursuit of material privileges ultimately led him into a secular wilderness," the listing added. "'Communion' reveals how Vance regained his faith and discusses his conversion to Catholicism, how his faith guides his work in public life, and how it shapes his thoughts about the future."

Vance announced the book late Tuesday morning, saying it details his personal journey with faith and how he found his way back.

Vance told the Associated Press, which first reported on the book’s release, "The story of how I regained my faith, of course, only happened because I had lost it to begin with. The interesting question that hangs over this book, and over my mind, is why I ever strayed from the path. Why the Christian faith of my youth failed to properly take root."

His publisher said Vance has been working on the book on and off since 2019, and will include material from his time in politics. Some of "Communion’s" writing is drawn from a planned religious memoir that HarperCollins told AP in 2022 Vance had set aside.

Vance’s widely popular memoir "Hillbilly Elegy," which explored his upbringing in Appalachia, was released in 2016. It was adapted into a movie in 2020 starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams.
