A brutal attack took place on Wednesday in New York as a man physically assaulted a special needs student at the Hebrew Academy for Special Children in Brooklyn, reports United with Israel.

As the 20-year-old student exited the school, a white male with a bandana covering his face approached him, punched him multiple times and proceeded to hit him in the head with a rock.

The incident took place in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighbourhood where there is a sizeable Orthodox Jewish Community as well as a broad range of other religious and ethnic groups.

After first responders showed up on the scene, they transported the victim to Maimonides Hospital to receive treatment.

After the incident, Shomrim—a neighbourhood security organization—worked with the New York Police Department to search for the man.

Shomrim reportedly looked through security footage in the surrounding area in an attempt to find the suspect.

The Post Millennial reached out to Shomrim for comment but but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

The NYPD is currently investigating the incident.
