Reid said, "We still don't know for sure whether Donald Trump was hit by a bullet, whether he was hit by glass fragments, whether he was hit by shrapnel."

On Wednesday, Joy Reid joined the chorus of conspiracy theorists questioning the true cause of the injuries to Donald Trump's ear during his assassination attempt on Saturday. The MSNBC host suggested the wound may not have been caused by a bullet, but by a shard of glass or other shrapnel.

Such theories have been debunked, including by Snopes, which in no uncertain terms rated the claim that it was anything but a bullet to be "False." Nonetheless, Reid has continued theorizing that it could have been glass or something else.

"We still don't know for sure whether Donald Trump was hit by a bullet, whether he was hit by glass fragments, whether he was hit by shrapnel," she said. "We actually have no details from his physician even though this man is still a Secret Service protected presidential candidate. We know almost nothing. Why don't we know that much?"

"What is the actual injury to Donald Trump's ear that's under that bandage?" she pressed. "Shouldn't we know that by now? It's weird, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of curiosity about it in the media world ... Where are the FOIAs? Why isn't the New York Times aggressively pursuing his medical records?"

Reid has also speculated that it was not a bullet in a post on Threads. "What caused Trump's injury and what was the injury? Shrapnel? Glass? A bullet?" She then asked how the gunman had been allowed to climb up on the roof and get a clear shot at the former president, and why Secret Service had allowed him to "stand and pose for photos" for nine seconds.

Reid went on to note that she would try to answer those questions when she gets back to doing her show following the Republican National Convention.
