Joy Reid states America is racist if Trump wins — or if he loses

"And even though we intellectually understand where America is at its base, there is a great amount of racism, anti-blackness, anti-wokeness," said Reid.

While appearing on MSNBC on election night, Joy Reid suggested that America remains a racist nation, regardless of outcome.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow discussed the election with Reid, suggesting the results were not as enjoyable as she hoped.

"We've been reporting for five years, Rachel," Reid said, "about Russia, about national security, just undermining our national security, the impeachment, racism, the Nazis, all of it, and Covid laying on top of it, felt like a repudiation was coming.

"And even though we intellectually understand where America is at its base, there is a great amount of racism, anti-blackness, anti-wokeness, this idea that political correctness is some sort of scheme to destroy white America," said Reid.

"Like, we know what this country is, but I still part of you, I think part of your heart says maybe the country pay off all of this pain, that the children were stolen, with a repudiation, and as the night wore on, and I realized, we are still who we thought... I was disappointed."

As of Thursday afternoon, the outcome of the election remains undecided.
