On Friday, the conservatorship that has control over many aspects of famed singer Britney Spears' life, like her finances, personal life, and medical decisions, has finally come to an end after 13 years of its existence.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny has terminated Spears' conservatorship effective immediately, according to Buzzfeed News.
"The time has come after more than a decade for the conservatorship to be terminated in its entirety," Spears' attorney, Mathew Rosengart, told the court.
Some actions are still pending though. In a court filing last week, Rosengart requested to depose Jamie Spears, and asked for materials related to the alleged surveillance of Britney Spears, highlighted in The New York Times documentary.
According to NPR, Rosengart has also hired forensic accountants to look into how the her father used Spears' money over the duration of the conservatorship.
Fans gathered outside the court on Friday, chanting, "What do we want?" "Free Britney!" "When do we want it?" "Now!" They reportedly erupted in cheers when the news was announced, playing her songs over a loudspeaker.
On Instagram, Spears celebrated the announcement, writing:
"Good God I love my fans so much it's crazy!!! I think I'm gonna cry the rest of the day!!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen" followed by the new hashtag #Freedbritney. In another post, Spears wrote on Instagram of the celebratory news: "I can't freaking believe it !!!! Again … best day ever!!!!"
