"I'll also be signing an executive order slashing all red tape and bureaucratic barriers."
President Donald Trump announced that he will be issue an executive order that will cut all the "red tape" and regulations in North Carolina in order "ensure the rapid reconstruction of the roads" in North Carolina that suffered damage from Hurricane Helene.
Speaking to the press in North Carlina on Friday, Trump said that the federal government will be "surging housing solutions to the state [North Carolina] that go beyond mere temporary hotel stays ... We'll marshal all available resources that bring back potable water and make your water and infrastructure dramatically more reliable very quickly."
He then announced, "Today, I'll also be signing an executive order slashing all red tape and bureaucratic barriers and permits to ensure the rapid reconstruction of the roads here in western North Carolina. We're going to go through a permitting process that's called no permitting, just get it done. That's the way they built them many years ago, I guarantee you that."
After Hurricane Helene struck North Carolina in the fall, followed close upon by Hurricane Milton, flooding and disaster destroyed many of the roadways and infrastructure that locals relied on in western North Carolina. In total there have been 104 verified hurricane-related fatalities in North Carolina, per the state's website.
