On Tuesday, Elon Musk urged people living in and around Austin, Texas to get out and vote for a new district attorney.

In Travis County, incumbent Jose Garza is facing a challenge from fellow Democrat Jeremy Sylvestine, who appears to have won the tech CEO's support.

"Sorry to bother everyone with this note, as it applies to people in the greater Austin area," Musk wrote in a post on X, "but please go to the polls and vote for a new District Attorney!"

Beneath his post was a quote-tweet of a video shared by Sylvestine wherein he made his case to voters.

"The DA's office has let the backlog of cases grow to over 6,000 cases, and who even knows what that number really is," Sylestine said. "The data's hard to find. It is significant, and what that means is justice delayed for thousands of people who are sitting on the other side of those lawsuits."

He went on to slam Garza for "letting people down day after day after day," highlighting numerous instances were they were "promised something from the Garza administration and didn't get it."

Garza, who was elected in 2020 after promising to get tough on violent offenders, has faced criticism in the lead up to Tuesday's contest.

As KVUE reports, on Monday his campaign volunteers were followed by a group of people who had been personally impacted by his policies. Among them were a man and woman whose brother and son, respectively, were murdered. They accused Garza of not doing enough to punish the offenders.
