New Yorkers frustrated over Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's MSG wedding: 'It's just ridiculous’

“And then you do it on a day where we’re supposed to honor American history and America’s birthday.”

New York City residents expressed frustration Friday over street closures and heightened security surrounding the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden.

The ceremony took place on Friday and was reportedly officiated by actor Adam Sandler, according to CBS News. Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as her “man of honor,” while Kece’s brother, Jason Kelce, was his best man. The couple reportedly did not have any other bridesmaids or groomsmen. Swift also reportedly wore a Christian Dior Haute Couture gown.

The event drew numerous A-list celebrities, but outside the venue, many New Yorkers voiced frustration over the traffic disruptions and security measures, which coincided with the Fourth of July weekend.

“It’s just ridiculous,” one New Yorker told Spectrum. “And then you do it on a day where we’re supposed to honor American history and America’s birthday.”

“I’m not here for it. I am not here for it at all,” said another.

“It’s a massive inconvenience,” said a third New Yorker. “For one person, I think it’s a bit unnecessary and over the top.”

Dozens of police officers were stationed along the venue, with Friday being one of the hottest days of the year. According to the US Sun, several officers said they were exhausted and overworked from the event.

"Taylor tried to make good with the city by donating to the police fire widows - that was the smartest thing she did. She’s also paying part of the overtime," officers told the outlet. "And the thing is, they picked this week. You have FIFA and then you have the 250th, the city is already maxed.”

With a rehearsal dinner on Thursday and the event on Friday, Michael O'Brien, the owner of O'Brien's Bar & Grill, explained to Us Weekly how the wedding led to business losses due to barricading and extensive security.

"You've wronged us, make it right,"  O’Brien said of the newlywed couple.

"We've reached out to the city, the mayor's office, NYPD, Travis Kelce's PR team, Taylor Swift's management company, I believe owned by her family or run by her family," O’Brien added. "Travis and Taylor stonewalled [us]. No replies to emails or phone calls or messages left."
