Venezuela has stopped accepting flights carrying illegal immigrants who have been deported from the United States and Mexico, undermining a key deterrent in illegal immigration that has been used by the Biden administration.

This comes as President Biden seeks to tighten immigration laws after his administration has been lambasted for its open border policies, which created a detrimental crisis at the US-Southern border.

Individuals familiar with the matter reported about the cease of the flights to the Wall Street Journal.

Deportation flights from the US to Venezuela stopped in January, according to US officials.

According to data from the US government, the United States deported approximately 1,800 Venezuelans on 15 flights since October, which is a negligible amount of the nearly half million Venezuelans who have been detained illegally entering the US over the past two years, the outlet reports.

On Thursday, reports revealed that the Biden administration is considering tighter immigration policy with executive action, which has been a Congressional battle over the past several months as Republican lawmakers work to enhance border security measures. He has been criticized for saying that he needed more authority from Congress to do so.

Biden admitted to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) that he has the authority to take action at the US-Southern border without Congress passing any new laws.
