The Justice Department announced Tuesday that there would be no criminal charges brought against the two Cleveland police officers accused of shooting 12-year-old Tamir Rice in November, 2014.

The investigation concluded that there was insufficient evidence to establish guilt on the part of law enforcement in the incident.
The Tamir Rice case was frequently used by the Black Lives Matter movement as a rallying cry against racially targeted police brutality. The closing of the investigation could have further social and political implications involving the Black Lives Matter movement and like political factions.
Rice was reportedly playing outside of a Cleveland recreation center with a BB gun on November 22, 2014 when Officer Timothy Loehmann shot and killed him. Officer Loehmann and his partner Officer Frank Garmback responded to a call made by a man who said "a guy” was pointing a gun at people. The man also reportedly told a 911 dispatcher that the gun may be fake, though this information may not have been relayed to responding officers on the ground.
