Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's approval rating has risen to its highest level since 2017 due, in part, to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, according to a new poll by the Angus Reid Institute.
His popularity is clear through the fact that his approval rating has now reached 54 percent, which is a substantial increase since the beginning of February.
Earlier this year, Trudeau's popularity was plagued by the Shutdown Canada protests, however the coronavirus pandemic has made this obsolete.
His daily press conferences may also have something to do with Trudeau's vertiginous rating, as they grant significant attention to the prime minister.
When it comes to party approval ratings, however, the results are less clear. The Conservatives and Liberals are in a "statistical tie," meaning Trudeau's approval rating is less consequential than it appears.
It is also worth considering that the Conservative leadership contest has not yet been completed, meaning it is difficult for Canadians to know who that viable alternative may be.
Pandemic popularity has been experienced by leaders throughout the world. In the United States, President Donald Trump continues to perform well in the polls, as does Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the United Kingdom.
