Campaign Chair Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a press call Wednesday, "We may not know the results of this election for several days, but we are very focused on staying calm and confident throughout this period as the process goes through."
A Kamala Harris campaign official has said that the results of the election may not be known on Tuesday night, but instead may take "several days."
Campaign Chair Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a press call Wednesday, "We may not know the results of this election for several days, but we are very focused on staying calm and confident throughout this period as the process goes through," Reuters reported.
Dillon said that most election results from Georgia and North Carolina should be in by the end of election night, and there would be "partial" results from Wisconsin, Arizona, and the closely-watched swing state of Pennsylvania.
Wednesday morning would likely bring more results from Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, as well as possibly Michigan, and later Wednesday or further on in the week would bring additional results of Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada.
"That’s obviously not a sign of fraud, it’s just the way it works," she said.
In past elections of the 21st and late 20th century, election results were typically known either late Tuesday or by Wednesday morning at the latest. 2020 was a departure from the norm, as the use of mail-in voting increased with the Covid pandemic, and the results of the election weren’t called by the Associated Press until the Saturday following the election.
This echoes a statement by Arnon Mishkin, who heads Fox News’ election Decision Desk, who said that the final election results may not be in until Saturday, November 9.
"The race seems very, very close. It is dependent on a number of states, like Pennsylvania, that we believe are going to be reporting in a pattern similar to the way they have reported in the past. So I’d say, the over/under is Saturday. Which was when the call was made last time. Which is when Pennsylvania is likely to come in.”
