Vice President Kamala Harris told Oprah Winfrey during a sit-down interview with the host on Thursday that if someone breaks into her house then they would be shot.

The vice president bragged to Oprah that she was a "gun owner" and added that "if somebody breaks into my house, they gettin' shot." Harris then followed up, "Sorry, probably shouldn't have said that! But my staff will deal with that later."

Harris, who has said in the past that she is in favor of mandatory gun buyback programs, has attempted to position herself as a moderate on the 2nd Amendment. However, when Harris surrogate Senator Raphael Warnock spoke about the issue, he avoided directly answering the question of her wanting to implement buybacks and said, “We're not going to be able to get where we need to go without action,” per the Guardian.

During her 2019 presidential run, Harris repeatedly showed support for mandatory gun buybacks, per a compilation of quotes from the NRA. Harris previously said it is a "good idea" and said that she "support[s] buybacks."

When the Harris campaign finally launched a policy platform over a month after she took up the mantle as the nominee, an “assault weapons ban” was included in the list of policy positions.

According to the New York Times, there were many groups that came to support Harris at the Oprah interview such as the White Dudes for Harris and Cat Ladies for Kamala. The Democratic nominee peddled the claim that Amber Thurman, who died from an infection after taking abortion pills, was somehow linked to the Supreme Court overruling Roe v Wade.

In reality, the tragic loss came about as a result of neglect from the hospital at the time. Family members of Thurman spoke, and Harris remarked about the overturning of the law, "It’s a health care crisis that affects the patient and the profession."
