North Korea’s dictator, Kim Jong Un, has been reported to be in a vegetative state after a botched cardiovascular procedure earlier this month, according to his medical team.

He has since been reported dead by TMZ.

The Japanese weekly magazine Shukan Gendai reported Friday that a member of the Chinese medical team on a mission in North Korea explained the situation in an article by its senior writer, Kondo Daisuke.

Kim clutched his chest and fell to the ground, a medical expert said during a countryside visit earlier this month. The doctor accompanying Kim immediately conducted CPR and took him to a nearby hospital for emergency care.

China has sent a team of medical experts to North Korea to care for the dictator, according to four people familiar with the situation.

Reuters was not able to determine what the trip by the Chinese team indicated about the health condition of Kim.

North Korea is one of the most secretive and isolated countries in the world, and the nature of its leader’s health is considered a state secret. Reuters has not been able to confirm details about Kim’s whereabouts or condition.

North Korea’s state-sponsored media last reported on Kim’s whereabouts when he presided over a meeting on April 11. State media did not report whether he was in attendance at an event to mark his grandfather, Kim II Sung, on April 15, an important anniversary for the country.

While Kim, who is believed to be 36 years old, has completely disappeared from media coverage, though this is not something new. In 2014, Kim disappeared from coverage for over a month before surfacing on television with a limp.

Speculation about Kim’s health has been tied to heavy smoking and apparent weight gain, which may be tied to the family’s history of cardiovascular problems.

The hashtag #KimJongUndead has been trending on Twitter, but there has been little to substantiate the claim that he is, in fact, dead.
