On Tuesday night, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), won the GOP congressional re-election primary after switching districts to a more Republican-heavy area.

Boebert emerged victorious in the six-way GOP primary for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District to replace outgoing Republican Rep. Ken Buck who resigned from Congress.

The Colorado firebrand claimed she made the district switch so that another Republican could win her old district, which she nearly lost in 2022.

Boebert is the favorite to win the seat in November in the very conservative district whose voters overwhelmingly backed former President Donald Trump in 2020. Boebert received Trump’s endorsement for her campaign.

A special election is also being held on Tuesday to complete the remaining months of Buck’s term. Republican candidate and former Mayor Greg Lopez is expected to beat a Democrat and third-party candidates.

Boebert won the race despite being embroiled in controversy after she and a date were removed from a Denver theater's production of the "Beetlejuice" musical for causing a disturbance and vaping in the theater. The incident sparked national headlines after security cameras captured the disturbance and a video of the incident was widely distributed. Following the incident, Boebert said in a statement, "The past few days have been difficult and humbling, and I'm truly sorry for the unwanted attention my Sunday evening in Denver has brought to the community. While none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did and I regret that."
